ComReg licence applications

The Wireless Telegraphy Act 1926 stipulates that anyone in possession or operation of radio equipment in Ireland must hold an appropriate licence, unless exempted. Licences must be obtained from ComReg, the Commission for Communications Regulation. Non-compliant possession or use of radio equipment is illegal and renders offenders liable for prosecution. Ripplecom is experienced in the preparation, submission and renewal of ComReg licence applications on behalf of our customers to ensure full and ongoing compliance.

How Ripplecom can facilitate the licensing process:

Registration with ComReg allows Ripplecom to fast track the application process by bypassing all registration requirements for first time applicants.

Technical checks

To ensure the efficient use of spectrum, applications for licenses must meet mandatory technical requirements and fulfil minimum equipment specifications. Our engineers ensure all technical criteria are met before submitting the application.

Appropriate equipment

All equipment specified in a licence application must be registered on ComReg’s Equipment Reference Code Database. Our engineers can recommend suitably registered equipment or register specific equipment prior to licensing.

Optimising for success

Our team conducts all available checks to minimise the prospect of the application proving unsuccessful due to issues such as high/low conflicts or inter-operator interference. This is key as ComReg is currently reporting an increase in “unmet” or unsuccessful applications, due in part to a failure to meet minimum technical requirements.

Ongoing compliance

From time to time, ComReg may be obliged to make changes to existing licences. Ripplecom will be keenly aware of any such changes and will ensure any licenses applied for through our consultancy service are unaffected or amended as necessary.

Radio link consultancy and deployment

Ripplecom assists with ComReg licensing as part of our radio link consultancy and deployment service. For any enterprise incorporating dedicated Point to Point (PtP) radio links into their communications set-up, availing of the experience and expertise of Ripplecom engineers will ensure the successful implementation and ongoing support of the project.
