ComReg has announced imminent changes to the Non-Geographic Numbers (NGN) platform. These changes will be implemented on a two-step basis and are intended to simplify the system and provide transparency for consumers.
What are NGN numbers?
Non-geographic calls are those made to 1800, 0818, 1890, 1850 and 076 numbers. ComReg, the Communications Regulator, is implementing changes to these Non-Geographic Numbers (NGNs) to simplify the system and provide transparency for consumers.
1. Geo Linking Condition
Effective date: 1 December 2019
– Calls to 1850, 1890, 0818 and 076 numbers will cost no more than calls to a regular landline number.
– NGN calls will no longer be classified as out-of-bundle, so if landline calls are in your bundle, no separate charges will apply (unless you have used all of your bundle minutes).
– Calls to 1800 numbers will continue to be free (to the caller)
2. NGN Consolidation
Effective date: 1 January 2022
The 1890, 1850, and 076 NGN ranges will be withdrawn. Only the 1800 and 0818 NGN ranges will remain.
What do I need to do?
There is no need to contact Ripplecom about your call bundle – rate changes will take effect automatically before 1 December 2019.
If you run a business that uses a number in the 1890, 1850 or 076 NGN ranges, you need to get in touch with your service provider to arrange migration to a new number. Available 1800 and 0818 numbers will be assigned on a first come, first served basis so customers are encouraged to get in touch as soon as possible.
